YWCA Garden Group plants vegetables for the Cottage

The newly formed YWCA Darien/Norwalk Garden Group has a mission to provide meaningful landscaping projects throughout the community.

The group’s first project was creating a vegetable garden at the Cottage, a group home for disabled young adults in the community. The garden will produce lettuce, broccoli, carrots, cilantro, parsley and other seasonal specialties.

“The residents of the Cottage will be enjoying fresh vegetables throughout the season,” said Caroline Burke, chairman of the group.

Sara McCool of Ungemack-McCool Landscape Associates Inc., has donated her professional design services. Ring’s End Lumber contributed the posts and fencing, while the seeds and plants were given by the Gardener’s Center & Florist of Darien.
